Elliott Gould is back on the TV screen with a recurring role in Showtime’s Drama “Ray Donovan” scheduled to debut June 30, 2013. He plays a long time friend and mentor to main character Ray.
Elliott Gould is probably best known for his role in the movie MASH. More recently he has played Reuben Tishkoff in Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen.
Elliott Gould was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1938. He father was a textile purchaser in the garment district and his mother sold artificial flowers. He graduated from the professional Children’s School. He has been married three times, first to Barbra Streisand with whom he had a son, Jason, and twice more to Jennifer Bogart with whom he had two more children.
Elliott Gould has had a long and stable career in film and television. He has been nominated for both the Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award. He has also appeared in a few Broadway shows when he was still a teen, which was where he met his future wife Barbra Streisand. His film career took off in the early 70’s with MASH, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, Capricorn One, The Lady Vanishes, and A Bridge Too Far.
During the 1980’s and 1990’s Elliott Gould was seen regularly on TV shows and in movies. He had a recurring role on the series “friends” as the father of characters Monica and Ross Geller. In 1991 he received critical acclaim for his role in a Warren Beatty film Bugsy.
Elliott Gould hosted Saturday Night Live six times and is the only actor to have cameo parts in more than one Muppet Movie.
These days Elliott Gould enjoys a busy career. He is once again stable, productive and happy. A grandfather and senior citizen, Gould has said “I’ve always been interested in participating and functioning as an older person, the idea is to continue to work. The work is the life. It’s how I learned about the world.” Interested in education, he tries to promote the importance of education whenever an opportunity presents itself. He is enjoying a steady career in his older years and spending time with his family.
As one of the elders of the film industry he currently serves on the National Board of Directors for the Screen Actors Guild.
Elliott Gould has helped the Jewish National Fund raise money to re-green the Carmel forest region in Israel and has visited with families and Veterans at the Greater Los Angeles Fisher House. He also lent his voice to a PSA video supporting the Fisher House and served as MC of a Fisher House Veteran’s Day event.
