Military veterans are a very well respected group and most people believe that they deserve support to help them lead comfortable lives after their service. There are a number of different groups who work towards supporting military veterans and ensuring they have the best quality of life possible.
Congress does take steps to help veterans and show that their hard work and sacrifice is very much appreciated. There are benefits available to military veterans, such as a preference for federal jobs, meaning they are more likely to be hired in these positions and can therefore carve out a new career for themselves after working in the military, a home loan guarantee which generally means lower interest rates and payment requirements, making owning a house much easier. There is also compensation and support for veterans who have been injured in action and are disabled and also medical care available to those who it applies to. Unfortunately, these benefits are often only available to certain veterans. As no actual definition is given, the government decides who is entitled to which benefit and this may exclude a number of people in need.
There are a number of associations who specialize in assisting military veterans. There are some specifically for the veterans of certain wars, some of the different branches of the military and some who offer support to anyone who can be considered a veteran. For example, the National Association of Senior Veterans is dedicated to providing better living and health services for Senior Veterans and their spouses. They help elderly veterans to apply for the benefits they are eligible for and to sort through all the paperwork this involves and helps them to make claims to the VA. Another great association is the Veterans Health Council, which works to improve the health care for veterans. Again, they try to make veterans aware of all the health benefits they are entitled to and educate health care services on the kinds of injuries and conditions veterans are likely to have after working in the military. There are also many associations, such as the MOAA that is involved in supporting all kinds of military personnel, so they look after the needs of veterans as well as men and women still serving in a branch of the military.
Charities also often get involved in helping make sure veterans have a good life after their time serving. Charities given an A or A+ grade are best as these are recognized as making the best use of the money they receive and make the biggest difference. There are many well-known charities, which will assist anyone involved in the military who is in need, but there are also charities who aid more specific cases, such as the Blinded Veterans Association or Help Hospitalized Veterans.
There are many different groups doing important work for war veterans and this means there are lots of opportunities for everyone to pitch in. The majority of these associations and the charities accept donations or sponsorship and will put any funds to good use.
