On Tuesday, August 28th, Toyota of Puyallup President, Kerry Bivens, presented The Fisher House Foundation at Joint Base Lewis McChord with a check for twelve thousand four hundred and fifty dollars ($12,450.00) toward the construction of a new Fisher House. The Fisher House Foundation constructs comfort homes to provide free, temporary housing to families of service members receiving medical care at military hospitals around the world.
This generous donation was a result of a fund-raising campaign that Toyota of Puyallup executed from May 17th through July 4th. During this time period, the dealership sold 249 new Toyota vehicles and contributed $50.00 from each sale toward the Fisher House project.
“We are thrilled to be able to make this donation,” stated Bivens as she presented the check to Fisher House Manager, Jodi Land. “The original Fisher House is at capacity and we are anxious for the second home to get off the ground to serve even more of our military families in need.”
On hand for the check presentation were members of Bonneville Seattle Radio Group, representing 97.3 KIRO FM, 710 ESPN KIRO AM and 770 KTTH AM.
The JBLM Fisher House was built in 1992 and has eight bedrooms, surrounding common living, dining and kitchen facilities. The average stay for a military family is two weeks and the house has operated at 100% capacity for the last three years. Last year, more than 300 families stayed at the Fisher House, at a savings of more than $450,000 in lodging expenses.
